Not everything that glitters is gold, but GreenFood.Life is proving to be a success. However, more funding is needed to scale its impact.
Understanding Food Waste in the Supply Chain
To build effective food waste prevention apps, entrepreneurs must understand the entire value chain—from production and distribution to consumption. A staggering 60% of food waste occurs during production, contributing significantly to environmental impact. But there is hope, as several Swedish food waste initiatives are making a difference:
Kharma – A platform that allows restaurants and grocery stores to sell surplus food at half price, benefiting both consumers and the environment.
Göteborgsmodellen – A food waste reduction guide for large-scale kitchens, featuring checklists, tools, and best practices for menu planning and waste management.
Food waste has been a growing concern among venture capitalists in the EU, with various initiatives attempting to address the issue. Yet, many of these solutions are reactive rather than preventive. At GreenFood.Life, our focus is on preventing food waste before it happens, using cutting-edge blockchain technology.
Back in 2015, we introduced the Green Food Interactive project to the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (Naturvårdsverket). We developed a strategic framework for a system that could track and measure carbon footprint reduction, but the market wasn’t ready for such an advanced approach at the time. Through this initiative, we connected with RISE (Research Institutes of Sweden) and later engaged with key players in the food industry. By 2016, we had a solution capable of integrating across the entire food supply chain, but lack of funding prevented further development. However, this journey gave us deep insights into the food waste problem and its solutions.
Too Good To Go, – One of the world’s largest food waste apps, connecting households with businesses that have surplus food while educating users on how to reduce waste.
GreenFood.Life – A Blockchain-Powered Food Waste Solution
Unlike traditional approaches, GreenFood.Life leverages blockchain technology to tackle food waste through an innovative incentive-based model. Users are rewarded with digital tokens, which can be used for various transactions beyond just purchasing food. This approach makes sustainability more accessible and financially beneficial for users.
With insights into its development, we believe GreenFood.Life is the investment opportunity of the future. As the platform prepares for its launch, it stands out as a game-changer in food waste management and blockchain innovation.
